Shintarō Kisaragi is an 18-year old hiki-NEET who has not left his room in two
years, engrossing himself with his computer and the internet. However, on August
15, due to the messing about of the cyber girl Ene, who lives inside his
computer, Shintarō spills soda on his computer keyboard and is forced to go outside
to buy a new one, due to the fact that during the Obon festival none of the stores
will deliver until August 17. Shintarō goes to the department store, where a group of
criminals break in and hold the people inside hostage for ransom. Here he comes in contact with a group of teenagers calling themselves the "Mekakushi Dan" (メカクシ団, lit.
"Blindfold Gang"), who stop the robbery with their mysterious eye powers and force Shintarō into joining their group.

The series is set in a world where magic exists and has been utilized as a technology for
nearly a century. Rather than casting spells with chants or other traditional forms of spellcasting, mages use a Casting Assistant Device, better known as a CAD. Mages
infuse the CAD with psions or thought particles (a substance-less particle and
psychic phenomenon) while the CAD itself provides an activation sequence, which is
then used to construct a magic ritual in order to invoke the magic. This magic ritual
targets the Idea, the platform on which Eidos are recorded. Eidos refers to a form of
information that is attached to a phenomenon. Modern magic uses false signals to
manipulate the Eidos of a target, which in turn modifies the phenomenon and causes
physical changes in the real world.
In 2095, Tatsuya Shiba and his sister Miyuki Shiba are new students enrolling at the
Private Magic University Affiliated High School (First High School). Students are
ranked according to their test scores: students with the best grades are designated
"Bloom" and enrolled in the Course 1 curriculum, while those with poor scores are
designated "Weed" and enrolled in Course 2. Miyuki topped the entrance exams and is
selected to be the first years' representative, while Tatsuya is placed in Course 2
due to his low practical test score, despite scoring the highest in the written
portion of the exams.

warriors through DNA manipulation called E-Gene holders. These E-Gene holders are the
reincarnations of various historical figures. Using special weapons called AU balls,
E-gene holders can call forth AU weapons with an affinity to their assigned
historical figure and use it against the invaders. Shio Ogura is one of them, being
the reincarnation of Oda Nobunaga. However, her memories of her past life are limited
only by dreams about the military past. Going on a school trip in Taiwan, Ogura gets
caught. in the middle of a battle between Evolutionary Invasion Objects and Dogoo's
E-gene holders, alongside her fellow classmate Asao Kaoru. When one of the E-Gene
holders, the reincarnation of Jack the Ripper, gets incapacitated and Asao ends up in
danger when confronting an Evolutionary Invasion object, Shio uses Jack's AU ball to
fully activate her E-Gene holder status. She gains her AU weapon, a massive machine
gun, and assists the other E-Gene holders to put an end to the Taiwan invasion. After
some reluctance, she joins DOGOO at Asao's behest. Shio is the reincarnation of Oda
nobunaga who was a lord in the feudal period of japan and prefered gun to other
wepons.
